Carrefour dentaire de Montréal opened in the autumn of 2003, founded by Dr Déry, a doctor of dental medicine from the Université de Montréal, a former lecturer at its Faculty of Dentistry and a former head of dental health in Westmount. His idea: bring seasoned generalists and specialists under one roof, and keep an on-call schedule that does not stop for weekends or the holidays. It became Montreal’s reference point for a tooth that breaks on a Sunday.

Treatments and services

On the emergency side: a lost crown or filling, a broken or cracked tooth, a knocked-out tooth, swelling and acute pain. Beyond that, the clinic covers general dentistry and hygiene, endodontics, periodontics, implantology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, prosthodontics, denturology and cosmetic work. The first visit starts from the medical history, then examines teeth, bite, gums and jaw; radiographs and oral cancer screening as needed.

The team

More than ten professionals. Generalists: Nelly Chafaï, Saïd Ouzerourou, Scott Mackay, Luc Locas, Lilian Carvalho, Carol Esper, Elior Yona. Specialists: Michael Dib, periodontist; Anne Beaudin, prosthodontist; Amer-Ouali, oral and maxillofacial surgeon; plus a denturologist. Dr Mackay arrived in 2005 after ten years of practice across Canada; trained in cosmetic dentistry and implantology, he is the one who built the emergency service with Dr Déry. His name comes up constantly in patient accounts, along with the front desk.

When a periodontist, a prosthodontist and a maxillofacial surgeon practise within the same walls, a complicated case is settled internally rather than through a chain of referrals across the city. Reception is in French and English; Spanish can be requested when booking. Patients covered by the Canadian Dental Care Plan are seen.
